Labour Day Long Weekend – Hunter Valley

For the Labour Day long weekend, I flew down to Sydney for a group trip to the Hunter Valley aka wine country!

I had been looking forward to this trip for weeks. This trip was the first time my 2 best friends from high school and I had been in the same place (or even the same country) in about 4 years!

The trip was so amazing! Everything about the Hunter Valley is beautiful, and to top it off, the weather was absolutely perfect for us!

Day 1

The girls picked me up from the airport and we drove the 2.5hrs straight to HV to meet the others. We caught up for lunch, then ended up at an orchard picking oranges.

Day Two

Day 2 was a slow start: a late brunch and alpaca feeding. The shuttle picked us up for our wine tour later that afternoon.

We visited Hunter’s Dream Estate, Misty Glen Wines, Vineyard & Cottage, and my personal favourite, Two Fat Blokes.

All 3 were great, but Two Fat Blokes was the pick of the day. They paired each tasting with a different cheese chosen specifically for that wine. I’m not usually a huge cheese eater, pairing each cheese with a specific wine was a game changer.

By the end of the day, we had bought a significant amount of wine and cheese between the group, made a couple new friends, & kicked on to a local pub for the rest of the night.

Day 3

Sunday was an early, yet very slow, rise to head back to the Beaches where I caught up with some more school friends & then headed back to the airport.

If you get the opportunity to visit the Hunter Valley, I definitely recommend the Two Fat Blokes tour!

The only thing I wish I had on that trip was my bike. Those long, windy roads through mountains, vineyards and valleys would have made for an amazing ride!

Until next time.
