My Shopping List

Each week, my shopping list is pretty much the same. Trial and error has taught me what kind of foods I can buy that are:

  • Delicious
  • Budget-friendly
  • Bulky, meaning I can eat more for less calories
  • Easy to prepare

Anyone that knows me, knows that I am 1. Picky about what I eat, and 2. Obsessed with loyalty programs. I am all about the mentality of making your money work for you, so I often put things on my shopping list before I run out of them, so that I can wait until they’re on sale & pick them up then. I’m a bit of a hoarder with non-perishables like oats, tuna, frozen foods, drinks, toiletries, soap, toilet paper etc.

Why No Meat?

As you might have noticed, there’s not much meat on there. I’m not a vegetarian or anything, I just don’t tend to buy much meat. I love chicken, red meat, sausages, seafood, the whole lot. But usually I can’t be bothered to cook it, or I get so full from all the fruits and veggies that the meat just ends up getting wasted.

I used to be so crazy about getting heaps of protein in my diet, and had a meat-heavy focus on my meal prep. However, I’ve found that reducing my meat consumption has had no real negative effect on maintaining my muscle mass and strength, so I’m not too bothered by it. I figure that if I’m maintaining my muscle mass on my current diet, I must be getting enough protein for my body.

I also have protein powder which I use to make my oats – my favourite protein is 100% Lean Whey by Genetix Nutrition in Salted Caramel. It’s got great macros, affordable and tastes great with water. Believe me, I wouldn’t say it ‘tastes great’ if I didn’t actually think it did. There are SO many terrible tasting shakes out there – I wouldn’t lead you astray. Plus, I’m not sponsored by them, so you can trust my recommendation 😉
